2022 All-State Middle Level Chorus Audition Materials & Information

NMEA will utilize Google Forms to collect student auditions, which will be available when the window for audition submissions opens. Teachers are allowed to submit no more than 12 student auditions. Our goal is 220 singers from around the state of Nebraska.

Audition submissions are now being accepted!

Submit an audition for the 2022 All-State Middle Level Chorus

Auditions will include:

  • Scale
  • Excerpt (either "My Country Tis of Thee" or "We Shall Overcome")

1. Scale

Students will sing a scale a cappella in the key of their choosing on solfege or monosyllable. Teachers may give students their starting pitch.

2. Excerpt

Students will sing "My Country Tis of Thee" or "We Shall Overcome" a cappella. Teachers may give students their starting pitch in the same key as their scale.

*If a student is unable to sing either of these songs due to personal reasons, please contact Gail Carpenter-Johnson at [email protected].

AUDITION UPLOAD INSTRUCTIONS

Teachers are to record the audio audition. The audition is to be completed and submitted to the Google Form before September 9 at 11:59 pm Central Time. The Google Form will be open on August 1 for audition submissions. Please check back here at that time for the link.

*Whenever recording an audio audition, it is important to check sound levels before recording the actual auditions. Please remain at least 2 feet from the microphone when singing, or the sound may be distorted.

The entirety of the audition must be done in “one take”. This means that the entire audition must be recorded from beginning to end, without stopping, and submitted as one track. From the time you begin Step 1 until the time you finish Step 4, no one should stop the recording for any reason. Do not edit the track (i.e. no “autotune”, no artificial echoes, no “splicing” individual parts together, etc.). If splicing, etc. is detected, the audition may be void.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR RECORDING:
Remember – the entire audition must be done from beginning to end without stopping the recorder! This recording should be AUDIO ONLY! The only time you should talk in your recording is during Step 1. Teachers are allowed to play the starting pitch for students and set the tempo, but students must maintain it without aid. Please record in this exact order:

  1. State: My name is <insert student name> and I am auditioning for <insert voice part>
  2. Student then sings scale A Cappella in the Key of their choosing on solfege or monosyllable (teacher may give them their starting pitch)
  3. Student then sings My Country ‘Tis of Thee or We Shall Overcome A Cappella (teacher may give them their starting pitch: in the same key)*

*If a student is unable to sing these songs due to personal reasons, please contact Gail Carpenter-Johnson at [email protected].

Before submitting, listen to the recording to ensure it was recorded correctly and the audition can be heard.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPLOADING THE AUDITION:

  1. Rename the audio file with student’s first initial, last name, voice type. Example: J.Doe/Soprano.
  2. Complete one Google Form submission for each student. There will be a place within the form to upload the student’s recording file.

Make sure you turn in the best recording - have a system so you don’t turn in the wrong one! There are no re-dos after the recordings are submitted. Audition uploads are due by September 9 at11:59 pm Central Time.
